Guided tour in Bozar:

Bozar looks back at the work of Antoni Tàpies (Barcelona, 1923-2012) with a retrospective that travels in time between 1944 and the 1990s. It is the first major exhibition in Belgium to give a complete picture of the artist's work. More than 120 works are back on display at Bozar for the first time after several decades. From early drawings and self-portraits, the exhibition continues with his 'matter paintings' of the 1950s and the objects and assemblages of the 1960s and 1970s. The exhibition continues with his varnishes from the 1980s, which he began several years earlier when Spanish Democracy was born, and concludes with works from the 1990s, in which Tàpies continued the formal and material experimentation that was always central to his practice.

As an autodidact during the interwar period, Tàpies reflected on the condition humaine, his own historical situation and artistic practice, more specifically on the limits and contradictions of painting. His highly prolific oeuvre is spread all over the world.

The exhibition The avant-garde in Georgia (1900-1936) opens the europalia georgia festival and, for the first time in Europe, recounts a chapter of avant-garde art that has largely fallen into oblivion. The avant-garde in Georgia will be shown and contextualised through a large number of works (paintings, drawings, books, films, photographs, sets and costumes from film and theatre) preserved mainly in Georgia.

Featuring works by Elene Akhvlediani, Irakli Gamrekeli, Gigo Gabashvili, Nutsa Gogoberidze, Lado Gudiashvili, David Kakabadze, Shalva Kikodze, Kote Mikaberidze, Petre Otskheli, Niko Pirosmani, Alexander Salzmann, Ilya and Kirill Zdanevich, among others.

Guided tour in Wiels:

Following his presentation for the Flemish entry for the Belgian Pavilion of the 2022 Venice Biennale, Alÿs presents this new, more comprehensive display of The Nature of the Game, twelve years after the artist's memorable retrospective at WIELS that introduced Belgian audiences to the full scope of his work.

Especially for WIELS' post-industrial architecture, Thea Djordjadze creates new work in which she examines and questions not only the formal and material aspects of the building, but also its institutional context. The Georgian-German artist thus expands her rich visual language of sculptural painting and painterly sculptures. As part of europalia georgia.
