James Rosenquist

Rosenquist painted billboards to supplement his income while training to be an artist. Shortly afterwards, he worked in the advertising world as a poster designer. This period profoundly influenced his later large-scale paintings, in which he portrayed combinations of visual fragments from popular culture. Rosenquist emerged as one of the key pop art figures in the US. Unlike his contemporaries, the artist in his work often references political, existential, economic and ecological issues.
