Psycho-Objet 27 C (Le fou)

NL - Tussen 1964 en ’67 realiseerde Jean-Pierre Raynaud een reeks werken onder de titel ‘Psycho-Objets’. Hij assembleerde in elk van die werken uiteenlopende voorwerpen die door de combinatie een poëtische maar raadselachtige betekenis kregen. De titels versterken telkens de emotionele lading van de wandsculpturen. Hier is dat ‘Le fou’, de waanzinnige. De wit beschilderde muur en de ‘ready made’ objecten zijn onpersoonlijk. Toch geven ze ons in combinatie met de foto een onbehaaglijk gevoel. Dat geldt zeker voor het harkje dat venijnig in de laatste foto prikt. De assemblage roept een ziekenhuisomgeving op of, gezien de titel, die van een gesticht. Raynaud gebruikt neutrale objecten maar in combinatie met de rest van de installatie, beladen we ze als kijker met subjectieve betekenissen. De hele assemblage roept heel wat vragen op, maar een eenduidige betekenis geeft de kunstenaar zeker niet prijs.

ENG - Between 1964 and 1967, Jean-Pierre Raynaud created a series of works entitled 'Psycho-Objets'. In each of these works, he assembled a variety of objects, which, through their being combined, became imbued with a poetic yet enigmatic meaning. The titles of the works always tend to intensify the emotional charge of the wall sculptures. In this case, it is 'Le fou', the madman. The white painted wall and the 'ready-made' objects are impersonal. In combination with the photograph, however, they evoke a feeling of unease. This certainly applies to the rake that pokes viciously through the last picture. The assembly recalls the atmosphere of a hospital or, given its title, an asylum. Raynaud uses neutral objects, yet upon viewing them in conjunction with the rest of the installation, we, as viewers, infuse them with subjective meanings. The entire assemblage raises many questions, but the artist does not provide any unambiguous meaning.

FR - Entre 1964 et 1967, Jean-Pierre Raynaud a réalisé une série d’œuvres intitulée Psycho-Objets. La combinaison des divers objets qu’il a assemblés dans chacune de ces œuvres leur confère une signification poétique, mais énigmatique. Les titres renforcent la charge émotionnelle des sculptures murales. Ici, il s’agit de l’œuvre Le fou, l’aliéné. Bien que le mur blanc et les objets ready-made soient impersonnels, combinés à la photographie, ils suscitent un sentiment de malaise. Cela vaut certainement pour le petit râteau planté avec perfidie dans la dernière photo de la série. L’assemblage évoque un environnement hospitalier ou, au vu du titre, celui d’une institution psychiatrique. Raynaud utilise des objets neutres, mais mêlés au reste de l’installation, nous, les visiteurs, leur attribuons des significations subjectives. L’ensemble de l’assemblage soulève de nombreuses questions, mais l’artiste se garde de lever le moindre coin du voile sur une signification univoque.
