Reiner Ruthenbeck, Blau-Rot, 1986
Belgradostraat
In 1986, Robert cleared space in his living room for the installation 'Blau-Rot' by German artist Reiner Ruthenbeck. Today, the room is filled with light and furniture; back then, it was completely empty and pitch black. Only two lamps – one red, one blue – filled the space with their glow. From the original lamps (stored away in a box) to magazines, newspaper clippings, letters, postcards, and even memories of a night out with the artist: Robert still keeps and treasures it all.

In 1986, American artist Sol LeWitt gave instructions to transform Herman & Kristien’s courtyard. "This can stay here, as long as you like it", the artist said afterwards. Those words clearly echoed through time, as the mural is one of the few works – specially created for Chambres d’Amis – that can still be seen in their original location. Once a must-see during the summer months of 1986, it is now an oasis of calm... and a place for the bicycles.
Roger Raveel, 1986
Visserij

Visserij
A while ago, Yolande happened to stumble upon the house that was transformed 40 years ago by Roger Raveel and his paintbrush. At the time, Raveel drew inspiration from the original residents, a World War II bombardment, and ancient cave paintings, among other things. At the top of the stairs, the artist portrayed himself (slightly larger than life), and by the front door, the former lady of the house still welcomes the current resident every day.
