No one is illegal: Co-create art and support people forced to flee

No one is illegal

Do you have a heart for people forced to flee? We are looking for people who want to help make works of art in June that will be sold to support the refugee work in Dunkirk.

In June 2022, the Dutch artist duo Nicole Driessens and Ivo van den Baar (WANDSCHAPPEN) will come to S.M.A.K. with their installation 'No One Is Illegal', which also includes the ongoing series of 'Dunkirk works'. These works of art, handmade with wool felt, are about the refugee camps in Dunkirk and find their origin in the stories of Saar Depuydt.

For seven years now, Saar has been driving with her friends to Dunkirk every fortnight with a number of cars full of food, clothing and tents to help refugees there. The project supports Saar's work and has a special start with eight workshops in which Driessens and van den Baar, together with ten volunteers, work on new, unique versions of the Dunkirk artworks. The compositions remain the same but differ in colour each time. The works of art will be sold afterwards during the exhibition in the S.M.A.K. for the benefit of the refugee work. The opening is on 19 June.

We are looking for people who would like to spend a day, between 10:00 and 17:00, creating in the temporary studio in S.M.A.K. on 8, 9, 10, 11, 14, 15, 16 or 17 June. Some experience of sewing is fine, but not essential.
