In the autumn of 2016, S.M.A.K. set up a museum room as a painting studio where all CLW students followed a three-part workshop programme as part of the exhibition These Strangers… Painting and People. The exhibition offered an overview of portraiture in painting over the past 40 years.
In the workshops, the students visited and discussed the exhibition and worked on themes such as painting, portraiture, self-image and identity. All students ultimately created a self-portrait. The studio was open to the public.
This was the fourth project in collaboration with the CLW and ENGIE. During previous editions, the pupils created an audio tour with rap songs in collaboration with REC for the exhibitions by Larry Sultan and Joris Ghekiere and a stop-motion film with Boris Zeebroek and Froze for the exhibition Drawing | The Bottom Line. During the summer of 2014, they collaborated on David Bade's project in the museum and under the Ghent city hall.
In collaboration with S.M.A.K. guides Aline van Nereaux and Kato Vanpoperinghe.
