Since the beginning of 2017, S.M.A.K. has been organising regular photography workshops for people with mental vulnerability in collaboration with the Dr Guislain Hospital and photographers Anja Hellebaut and Lisa van Damme from mentor. The set-up of the project is simple: participants visit an exhibition at the museum, are each given a camera and then set to work for four weeks to realise their own series of photographs.
Participants were invited to observantly observe and record their daily coincidences after the museum visit. They received weekly support from mentor mentor in the form of substantive and constructive criticism. The results are very direct and at the same time very personal, with the camera acting sometimes as a shield, other times as a window on the world.
About eight people can take part in each process. Meanwhile, there have been trajectories at The Photographic I, Against The Wall, Raoul De Keyser and The Photographic II. This exhibition is composed of images created in these workshops. On view are photographs by: Craig, Detlef, Guy, Hannah, Janina, Jean-Pierre, Marc, Max, Erwin, Frank, Serge, Stefaan, Laura, Nathalie and Max.
- The Light Sensitivity presentation opens simultaneously with The Collection (1), Highlights for a Future.
- You are welcome to visit the exhibition at the opening on 15 March 2019 from 20:00 at S.M.A.K. The exhibition is free to visit.
