Film Screening: Why Are You Angry? by Nashashibi / Skaer

10.Mar.26 until 29.Mar.26
Nashashibi Skaer Why are you angry 2017

On the occasion of the launch of the second volume of UpClose, the new publication series focusing on key works from the S.M.A.K. collection, you can watch the film 'Why Are You Angry?' by artists Nashashibi / Skaer for free from March 10 to March 29 during museum opening hours.

In 'Why Are You Angry?', Rosalind Nashashibi and Lucy Skaer examine how French artist Paul Gauguin depicted Polynesian women. They followed in Gauguin's footsteps to Tahiti to create images of women and re-enact several of his famous paintings. The film thus offers a commentary on Gauguin’s colonial, male gaze.
