On Thursday 7 November 2024, S.M.A.K. and the other Ghent museums will keep their doors open until 22:00. Come along for an evening visit to the ongoing exhibition, a film screening, Arabic Jazz and a bite to eat at the Wilde Weide.
We take you through the world of modern alchemist Joris Van de Moortel in HELL ON EARTH, in search of PUR, NUR and FUR and through our newly opened collection exhibition PRESENTS - private donations to S.M.A.K.
After this tour, be sure to enjoy a drink and/or snack in De Wilde Weide.
During Late Thursday, S.M.A.K. is organising a discussion evening between makers and audience around the screening of the film made during the film therapy project ‘Moving ~ Silence’. The centrepiece is the inspiring story of Hewan, Sabir, Ram and Dawit, four people who recently had to leave their homeland.
Ahmed Hawwash, a Palestinian Jazz clarinetist deeply rooted in traditional Palestinian music, formed a unique duet with Jazz-Pop-Rock guitarist Tom Peeters. Together, they revive ancient Palestinian chants with jazz-inspired arrangements. Tom brings these melancholic melodies to life, using a wide range of sounds from his electric guitar to add depth and color. Their performances are rich in storytelling, with each melody carrying its own history and narrative, while Ahmed’s original compositions further enhance the emotional journey, creating a moving fusion of music and culture.
