In 2019, S.M.A.K. launched the project 'I wish I was my own country so I could be home anywhere', in which young people travelled along the borders of Europe at the invitation of Vluchtelingenwerk Vlaanderen to meet refugees. Together they made a personal flag, based on core values such as love, empathy and peace. Afterwards everyone could buy a flag they had designed themselves and support Doctors Without Borders that way.
With this flag project, S.M.A.K. wants to continue to raise awareness about the vulnerable position of refugees. An issue that, partly due to the coronapandemic, falls into the background.
In the meantime, 200 flags have been ordered! With the proceeds of these flags, we can support the activities of Doctors Without Borders in the refugee camps on Lesbos. Together with 80 volunteers, we waved our flags around S.M.A.K. and Floraliënhal, in order to give visibility to the refugee crisis.
