Verlust der Mitte

NL – ‘Verlust der Mitte’ was in 2017 in uitgebreidere vorm in S.M.A.K. te zien. De collectiepresentatie werd samengesteld met in het achterhoofd de uitgangsideeën van het verzamelbeleid van dit museum. Deels hernomen, focust deze presentatie zich op de Cobrabeweging met werken van onder meer Corneille, Karel Appel en Pierre Alechinsky, allen kunstenaars die wereldwijd gelden als referenties binnen de moderne kunst. De collectiestukken worden geconfronteerd met de huidige migratieproblematiek. De naam ‘Verlust der Mitte’ is ontleend aan het hier tentoongestelde werk van Cobrakunstenaar Asger Jorn uit 1958 dat verwijst naar een uitvoerig besproken cultuurfilosofische publicatie uit 1948 van kunsthistoricus en voormalig NSDAP-lid Hans Sedlmayr.

ENG – S.M.A.K. presented an expanded version of ‘Verlust der Mitte’ (‘Loss of the Centre’) in 2017. The presentation of the works was organised around the basic principles of the museum’s collection policy. In this partial redisplay, the presentation focuses on the Cobra movement and includes works by, amongst others, Corneille, Karel Appel and Pierre Alechinsky: all artists who are internationally recognised as reference points within modern art. These works from the collection are confronted with the current issues surrounding migration. The name ‘Verlust der Mitte’ (Loss of the Centre) is derived from a 1958 work by the Cobra artist Asger Jorn, which is exhibited here. It refers to a controversial cultural-philosophical publication from 1948 by the art historian and former member of the Nazi party, Hans Sedlmayr.

FR - ‘Verlust der Mitte’ était visible sous une forme plus étendue au S.M.A.K. en 2017. La présentation de la collection a été composée en songeant aux idées à la base de la politique de collection de ce musée. Cette présentation, reprise en partie, se concentre sur le mouvement Cobra avec des oeuvres entre autres de Corneille, Karel Appel et Pierre Alechinsky, tous des artistes connus dans le monde entier comme des références de l’art moderne. Les pièces de la collection sont confrontées au problème actuel de la migration. Le nom ‘Verlust der Mitte’ est emprunté à l’oeuvre exposée ici de l’artiste Cobra Asger Jorn de 1958, qui fait référence à une publication de philosophie culturelle de 1948, largement discutée, de l’historien de l’art et ancien membre du NSDAP Hans Sedlmayr.
