Dead Drawing

NL – ‘Dead Drawing’ is een minimalistische installatie. Een kale grafietstift rust op twee spijkers aan de wand. Daarboven: twee lijnen, getekend met dezelfde grafietstift. Samen vormen ze een gelijkzijdige driehoek. Visueel is het werk van Charbel-joseph H. Boutros erg eenvoudig maar tegelijk is het suggestief. De betekenis ervan is niet eenduidig te vatten en laat ruimte om er ook verhalen uit onze persoonlijke context aan toe te voegen. Boutros’ werk is conceptueel, maar ontstaat vaak vanuit een romantisch idee, bv. het vangen van het licht van de zon of de maan. Zijn poëtische installaties spelen met de grens tussen het zichtbare en het onzichtbare. Ze balanceren op de rand van het verdwijnen. ‘Dead Drawing’ toont de sporen van een handeling. De handeling zelf is onherroepelijk voorbij.

ENG – The installation ‘Dead Drawing’ is minimalistic. A simple graphite pen rests on two nails in a wall. Drawn above it are two lines, produced with the same graphite pen. Together they form an equilateral triangle. Visually, work by Charbel-joseph H. Boutros is very simple whilst simultaneously being evocative. Its meaning is not explicit and is open to conjecture, leaving room to add stories with a personal context. Boutros’ work is conceptual but is often derived from a romantic notion, such as catching the light from the sun or the moon. His poetic installations play with the boundary between the visible and the invisible. They balance on the verge of disappearance. ‘Dead Drawing’ shows traces of an action. The act itself is irrevocably terminated.

FR - ‘Dead Drawing’ est une installation minimaliste. Un crayon dépouillé en graphite est accroché au mur par deux clous. Au-dessus, deux lignes, tracées avec ce même crayon en graphite. Ensemble, ils forment un triangle équilatéral. Sur le plan visuel , l’oeuvre de Charbel-joseph H. Boutros est extrêmement simple, tout en étant suggestive. Il n’est pas évident d’en capter la signification, qui réserve de l’espace pour y ajouter des histoires provenant de notre contexte personnel. L’oeuvre de Boutros est conceptuelle, mais elle est souvent le fruit d’une idée romantique, par exemple, capter la lumière du soleil ou de la lune. Ses installations poétiques se jouent de la frontière entre le visible et l’invisible. Elles évoluent à la limite de la disparition. ‘Dead Drawing’ montre les traces d’une action. L’action elle-même est irrévocablement passée.
