Frutos de la tierra III

NL – Zoals in veel van haar sculpturen verwerkte Geysell Capetillo Álvarez ook in de installatie ‘Frutos de la Tierra III’ (Vruchten van de aarde III) lichtbronnen en -armaturen. Uit een bijna transparante kruiwagen in polyester ontspringen snoeren met gloeilampen. De kruiwagen, uitgaande van de titel, als symbool voor onder meer het werk op de akker, lijkt een onuitputtelijke bron van energie, een hoorn des overvloed van licht. Capetillo gebruikt alledaagse voorwerpen die ze ons door middel van de voor haar kenmerkende conceptueel-minimalistische manipulatie ervan op een andere manier doet waarnemen. Niet de betekenis of de voorgeschiedenis van de voorwerpen op zich staan voorop, maar de relatie die de mens er als bewoner van de aarde mee heeft opgebouwd en verder ontwikkelt.

ENG - The installation ‘Frutos de la Tierra III’ by Geysell Capetillo Álvarez is made of lightbulbs and fixtures, as are many of her sculptures. Lighting cords spill from a semi-transparent polyester wheelbarrow. In keeping with the title, the wheelbarrow – which symbolises working in the fields, amongst other things – appears to be an inexhaustible source of energy, a light-filled horn of plenty. Capetillo characteristically takes a conceptual-minimal approach to everyday objects, manipulating them in such a way that we perceive them differently. It is not the significance or history of the objects per se that is paramount, but the relationship that people have built with them, and which they continue to develop as inhabitants of this world.

FR - Comme dans nombre de ses sculptures, Geysell Capetillo Álvarez a aussi incorporé des sources de lumière et des armatures d'éclairage dans l'installation « Frutos de la Tierra III » (Fruits de la Terre III). Des cordons d'ampoules jaillissent d'une brouette en polyester presque transparente. En partant du titre, la brouette, en tant que symbole, entre autres, du travail dans les champs, apparaît comme une source d'énergie inépuisable, une corne d'abondance de lumière. Capetillo utilise des objets quotidiens qu'elle nous fait percevoir différemment par la manipulation conceptuelle-minimaliste qui la caractérise. Ce n'est pas la signification ou l'histoire des objets en soi qui est primordiale, mais la relation que les humains ont construite et continuent de développer avec eux en tant qu'habitants de la terre.
