NL – Jef Verheyen werd geboren met een visuele handicap. De monochromen die hij schilderde, hebben niet zozeer hun belang in het kleurgebruik maar wel in het capteren van kleur en licht. Dit als poging om te ontsnappen aan de somberheid van alledag en als manier om tot rust te komen. Verheyen werkte mee aan tentoonstellingen van de Zero-groep, die het belang van licht vooropstelde, maar kreeg helaas nooit de internationale erkenning die hij verdiende.
ENG – Jef Verheyen was born with a visual impairment. The monochromes he painted have their importance not so much in the use of colour as in the capturing of colour and light. This as an attempt to escape from the gloom of everyday life and as a way to unwind. Verheyen participated in exhibitions by the Zero group, which prioritised the importance of light, but unfortunately never received the international recognition he deserved.
FR – Jef Verheyen est né avec une déficience visuelle. Les monochromes qu'il a peints ont leur importance non pas tant dans l'utilisation de la couleur que dans la captation de la couleur et de la lumière. Il s'agit d'une tentative d'échapper à la morosité de la vie quotidienne et d'un moyen de se détendre. Verheyen a participé à des expositions du groupe Zero, qui privilégiait l'importance de la lumière, mais n'a malheureusement jamais reçu la reconnaissance internationale qu'il méritait.
