NL – In zijn video’s en schilderijen zoomt Adam Leech in op mogelijke afleidingsmanoeuvres in het gebruik van retoriek, stem en spraak en speelt hij met de plasticiteit van woorden en hun betekenis. ‘Speech Bubble’ is gebaseerd op het faillissement van het Belgische spraaktechnologiebedrijf Lernout & Hauspie. Geld, techno-utopia en de cultus van het ondernemerschap droegen bij tot de schepping van een economische luchtbel, die in 2001 genadeloos openspatte. De video verbeeldt een dialoog tussen een werkloze zakenman en zijn geliefde. Samen halen ze herinneringen op aan de tijden voor het bankroet van hun bedrijf. Herinneringen die stuurloos drijven op nostalgie, strategie en romantiek.
ENG – In his videos and paintings Adam Leech zooms in on possible diversionary tactics in the use of rhetoric, the voice and speech and plays with the plasticity of words and their meaning. ‘Speech Bubble’ is based on the bankruptcy of the Belgian speech technology company Lernout & Hauspie. Money, the technological utopia and the cult of entrepreneurship contributed to the creation of an economic bubble, one that burst mercilessly in 2001. The video shows a dialogue between an unemployed businessman and his lover. Together they reminisce about the time before their company’s bankruptcy. Drifting memories founded on nostalgia, strategy and romanticism.
FR – Adam Leech s’intéresse dans ses vidéos et tableaux aux manœuvres de diversion que permet l’usage de la rhétorique, la voix et la parole et il joue avec la plasticité des mots et leur sens. ‘Speech Bubble’ est basé sur la faillite de l’entreprise belge des technologies de la parole Lernout & Hauspie. L’argent, l’utopie de la technologie et le culte de l’entreprenariat ont donné lieu à une bulle économique qui a éclaté de manière impitoyable en 2001. La vidéo montre un dialogue entre un hommes d’affaires sans emploi et sa petite amie. Ils se souviennent ensemble de l’époque de la faillite de leur entreprise. Des souvenirs qui dérivent vers la nostalgie, la stratégie et le romantisme.
