Awning Blanks

NL – ‘Awning Blanks’ bestaat uit twee raamwerken voor zonneschermen. De kleurrijke stof is verdwenen. Alleen het frame blijft over. Wat oorspronkelijk gemaakt is om te beschermen, voelt nu koud en dreigend aan, doet aan tralies denken. In dit werk schuilt een veeg uit de pan naar de gepretendeerde neutraliteit van de minimal art. Met haar oeuvre stelt Cady Noland onder meer geweld binnen de Amerikaanse maatschappij aan de kaak met de middelen en materialen die haar groot hebben gemaakt.

ENG – ‘Awning Blanks’ consists of two frames for awnings. The colourful fabric has been removed. Only the frame remains. Something that was originally made to protect now feels cold and menacing, and reminiscent of iron bars. This work takes a swipe at the professed neutrality of Minimal Art. In her oeuvre, Cady Noland among other things exposes the violence of American society using the means and materials that made it so great.

FR – ‘Awning Blanks’ se compose de deux cadres pour écrans solaires. Le tissu coloré a disparu. Seul le cadre subsiste. Ce qui est conçu initialement pour protéger donne à présent une sensation de froid et de menace, fait penser à des barreaux. Cette oeuvre est un coup de patte à la prétendue neutralité du minimal art. Avec son oeuvre, Cady Noland dénonce entre autres la violence au sein de la société américaine avec les moyens et les matériaux qui l’ont fait connaître.
