NL – Oswald Oberhuber bevraagt en becommentarieert het kunsthistorische verleden. Daarbij heeft hij niet alleen aandacht voor de grote internationale namen, maar ook voor minder bekende plaatselijke kunstenaars, die hij wil herwaarderen. Voor de tentoonstelling ‘Chambres d'Amis’ in 1986 construeerde Oberhuber een installatie die hij opdroeg aan Victor Servranckx, de schilder en beeldhouwer die behoorde tot de eerste generatie van Belgische abstracte kunstenaars. Orde en discipline waren de sleutelwoorden in Servranckx’ oeuvre. In de meditatieve kamer van Oberhuber staan een tafel en drie stoelen die een vormelijke gelijkenis vertonen met de geometrische beeldtaal van Servranckx. De tafel is te hoog voor de stoelen waardoor de functionaliteit van de objecten vervalt. De installatie is een stille, reflectieve ruimte waarin het sociale leven van alledag op zichzelf terugplooit.
ENG – Oswald Oberhuber questions and comments on art history. In so doing he concentrates not only on the big international names, but also lesser-known local artists, whose reputation he wants to reassess. For the exhibition ‘Chambres d’Amis’ in 1986, Oberhuber built an installation dedicated to Victor Servranckx, a painter and sculptor who was among the first generation of Belgian abstract artists. Order and discipline were key words in Servranckx’ oeuvre. The meditative room that Oberhuber created contains a table and three chairs whose forms are reminiscent of Servranckx’ geometric visual idiom. The table is too high for the chairs, so the objects are no longer functional. This installation is a still, reflective room where daily social life turns in on itself.
FR – Oswald Oberhuber remet en question et analyse le passé de l’histoire de l’art. Il ne s’intéresse pas seulement aux grands noms de la scène artistique internationale, mais aussi à des artistes locaux moins connus qu’il veut réhabiliter. Oberhuber a construit pour l’exposition ‘Chambres d’Amis’ en 1986 une installation qu’il dédia à Victor Servranckx, un peintre et sculpteur appartenant à la première génération d’artistes abstraits belges. L’ordre et la discipline étaient les mots clés de l’œuvre de Servranckx. Dans la salle méditative reconstituée par Oberhuber, figurent une table et trois chaises présentant des similitudes avec l’esthétique géométrisante de Servranckx. La table étant trop haute pour les chaises, les objets perdent toute fonctionnalité. L’installation est un espace figé dans la réflexion dans laquelle la vie sociale ordinaire se replie sur elle-même.
