Ombres - installatie tentoonstelling "Chambres d'Amis"

NL – Christian Boltanski werd in 1960 bekend met enkele avant-gardistische kortfilms en de publicatie van notebooks waarin zowel een fictief als een realistisch beeld van het menselijke bestaan wordt geschetst. Boltanski is gefascineerd door de dood en de reconstructie van het verleden. Voor Brasserie Flor – de enige niet-private locatie van de tentoonstelling ‘Chambres d'Amis’ in 1986 – creëerde Boltanski een draaiende figuur, een flamencodanseres, die we achter een raam zien dansen. Door een sterk licht op deze figuratieve vorm te plaatsen, ontstaat een theatrale compositie met een silhouet in beweging. In deze mysterieuze, kinetische installatie confronteert Boltanski ons met onze voyeuristische aard en verlangens.

ENG – Christian Boltanski came to public notice in 1960 with a number of short avant-garde films and the publication of notebooks in which he sketched both an imaginary and a realistic picture of human existence. He is fascinated by death and the reconstruction of the past. For Brasserie Flor – the only non-private location of the exhibition ‘Chambres d’Amis’ in 1986 – he created the revolving figure of a female flamenco dancer whom we see dancing in a window. By focusing a strong beam of light on this figurative form he created a theatrical composition with a moving silhouette. In this mysterious kinetic installation Boltanski confronts us with our voyeuristic nature and desires.

FR – Christian Boltanski s’est fait connaître en 1960 avec quelques courts-métrages d’avant-garde et la publication de carnets dans lesquels étaient croquée une image fictive et une image réaliste de la condition humaine. Boltanski est fasciné par la mort et la reconstruction du passé. Il a créé pour Brasserie Flor – le seul site non privé de l’exposition ‘Chambres d’Amis’ en 1986 – un personnage tournant sur lui-même, une danseuse de flamenco faisant son numéro dans une vitrine. En plaçant une forte lumière sur cette forme figurative, l’artiste crée une composition théâtrale d’une silhouette en mouvement. Boltanski nous confronte dans cette mystérieuse installation cinétique avec notre côté voyeuriste et nos pulsions.
