Sommergestirn

NL – Vanaf de vroege jaren ‘60 thematiseerde Meret Oppenheim naast de vluchtigheid van de droom ook de veranderlijkheid van de natuur. Met een reeks landschappen en hemelzichten in olieverf of oliepastel verkende Oppenheim natuurlijke fenomenen zoals manen, vlinders, sterren of planeten. Daarbij hechtte ze belang aan cycli, metamorfoses, toevalligheden en onzekerheden in de natuur. Om het onvatbare en ondefinieerbare van de kosmos te verbeelden, wendde Oppenheim zich tot de geometrische abstractie. Het geabstraheerde hemellichaam in ‘Sommergestirn’ is een voorstelling van de natuur en haar kracht.

ENG – From the early 1960s onwards, Meret Oppenheim not only focused on the volatility of the dream, but also on the changeability of nature. With a series of landscapes and views of the sky in oil paint or oil pastel, Oppenheim explored natural phenomena such as moons, butterflies, stars or planets. She attached importance to cycles, metamorphoses, coincidences and to the uncertainty of nature. To represent the intangible and indefinable aspects of the cosmos, Oppenheim turned to geometric abstraction. The abstracted celestial body in ‘Sommergestirn’ is a representation of nature and its power.

FR - Depuis le début des années ‘60, Meret Oppenheim thématisa sur la fugacité du rêve ainsi que sur l’inconstance de la nature. Avec une série de paysages et de vues aériennes réalisés en peinture à l’huile ou en pastel à l’huile, Oppenheim explorait des phénomènes naturels, comme les satellites, les papillons, les étoiles et les planètes. Ce faisant, elle accordait de l’importance aux cycles, aux métamorphoses, aux aléas et aux incertitudes de la nature. Pour représenter l’insaississable et l’indéfinissable, Oppenheim se tournait vers l’abstraction géométrique. L’astre abstrait dans ‘Sommergestirn’ est une représentation de la nature et de sa force.
