Two Hearts (Opera)

NL – ‘Two Hearts (Opera)’ is een combinatie van concrete dingen en geschilderde afbeeldingen. Werkelijkheid en illusie komen erin samen en dialogeren met elkaar. Op een speelse manier wijst Dine ons op de relatie tussen verf, doek en concrete dingen door op het beschilderde doek een bekladde vod en een jas met camouflageprint vast te maken. Het doek is schaars beschilderd: slechts enkele verfstreken vormen twee schematische harten. De verfdruipers zorgen ervoor dat niet alleen de dingen tastbaar aanwezig zijn maar ook de verf zelf. De verfborstels en de jas kunnen worden geïnterpreteerd als een zelfportret van de kunstenaar. Het hart – een kernmotief binnen Dine’s oeuvre – verwijst naar de innige band met zijn vrouw, het menselijk vermogen tot liefhebben en de constante aanwezigheid van gevoelens in ons leven.

ENG – ‘Two Hearts (Opera)’ is a combination of concrete objects and painted pictures. Reality and illusion come together and dialogue with each other. Dine playfully points out to us the relations between paint, canvas and concrete objects by attaching a dirty cloth and a camouflage jacket to the painted canvas. The canvas is only sparsely painted: it shows two schematic hearts formed by just a few brushstrokes. The dripping paint gives a tangible presence not only to the things, but also to the paint itself. The paintbrushes and the jacket can be interpreted as a self-portrait of the artist. The heart – one of the core motifs in Dine’s oeuvre – refers to his close ties with his wife, the human capacity for loving and the constant presence of emotions in our lives.

FR - ‘Two Hearts (Opera)’ est une combinaison d’objets concrets et d’images peintes. La réalité et l’illusion s’y réunissent et dialoguent entre elles. Dine nous montre d’une manière ludique la relation entre la peinture, la toile et les objets concrets en fixant sur la toile peinte un torchon barbouillé et une veste avec un imprimé de camouflage. La toile est peinte chichement: seuls quelques traits de peinture forment deux coeurs schématiques. Les gouttes de peinture veillent à ce que non seulement les objets soient présents de manière tangible, mais aussi la peinture elle-même. Les brosses et la veste peuvent être interprétées comme un autoportrait de l’artiste. Le coeur – un motif-clé dans l’oeuvre de Dine – renvoie au lien intime avec sa femme, à la capacité humaine d’aimer et à la présence constante de sentiments dans notre vie.
