NL – Deze kinetische sculptuur getuigt van Canells fascinatie voor het onbestendige. Het werk koppelt het materiële aan het immateriële via een apparaat dat ultrasone of voor ons gehoor te hoge klanken uitstoot. De geluidsgolven condenseren het water in de schaal tot damp die neerdaalt op het cement in de papieren zak en het zo verhardt. De titel ‘Perpetuum Mobile’ verwijst naar constructies die eeuwig blijven voortbewegen dankzij de wetten van de thermodynamica. Deze sculptuur bestaat in verschillende uitvoeringen: van 10 kg, 25 kg, 40 kg, 2400 kg tot 283 stone. Elke uitvoering is esthetisch uniek: hoe meer kilogram losse materie de installatie heeft, hoe meer andere elementen er aan het werk worden toegevoegd.
ENG – This kinetic sculpture attests to Canell’s fascination with precariousness. The work links the material to the immaterial through an apparatus that emits ultrasonic sounds, or sounds that are too high for us to hear. The sound waves evaporate the water in the bowl, which creates the steam that moistens the cement in the paper bag and causes it to harden. The title ‘Perpetuum Mobile’ alludes to constructions that are permanently in motion thanks to the laws of thermodynamics. There are a number of different versions of this sculpture: ranging from 10 kg, 25 kg, 40 kg and 2400 kg to 283 stone. Each version is aesthetically unique: the more kilograms of loose material contained in the installation, the greater the variety of elements that are added to the work.
FR - Cette sculpture cinétique témoigne de la fascination de Canell pour l’inconstant. L’oeuvre associe le matériel à l’immatériel par le biais d’un appareil qui émet des ultrasons ou des sons trop aigus pour nos oreilles. Les vagues sonores condensent l’eau de l’échelle en vapeur qui retombe sur le ciment dans le sac en papier et qui le durcit. Le titre ‘Perpetuum Mobile’ renvoie aux constructions qui continuent à bouger éternellement grâce aux lois de la thermodynamique. Cette sculpture existe dans différentes exécutions: de 10 kg, 25 kg, 40 kg, 2400 kg à 283 ‘stone’. Chaque exécution est unique sur le plan esthétique: plus l’installation compte de kg de matière libre, plus d’autres éléments sont ajoutés à l’oeuvre.
