NL – De tekeningenreeks ’A.T.’ belicht de vergeten biografie van de Britse wiskundige Alan Turing (1912-‘54) die de Turingmachine ontwikkelde, een berekeningsinstrument dat aan de basis ligt van computerlogica. Vanwege zijn homoseksualiteit kwam de man in opspraak en werd hij strafrechtelijk vervolgd. Dit leidde mogelijk tot zijn (vermoede) zelfmoord. Turings levensloop lijkt zijn persoonlijke verhaal uitzonderlijk nauw te verbinden met de 20ste-eeuwse geschiedenis. Olesen bracht op originele documenten van Turing ‘correcties’ aan. Het zijn authentieke sporen van Olesens directe interactie met het onderzoeksmateriaal. Hij presenteert niet de betekende originelen maar scans ervan, nieuwe beelden waarbinnen hij aan de documenten en aan zijn correcties eenzelfde historische waarde toekent.

ENG – The series of drawings ‘A.T.’ examines the forgotten biography of the British mathematician Alan Turing (1912-54), who developed the Turing machine. This calculation device was the starting point for the development of computer logic. Turing was tried and prosecuted for his homosexuality, which is thought to have led to his suspected suicide. His life seems to link his personal story exceptionally closely to 20th-century history. Olesen made ‘corrections’ to original documents by hand. These are authentic traces of the artists’ direct interaction with his research material. He does not present the annotated originals but scans of them, new images in which he attributes equal historical value to both the documents and his corrections.

FR - La série de dessins ‘A.T.’ examine la biographie oubliée du mathématicien britannique Alan Turing (1912-1954) qui a développé la machine de Turing, un instrument de calcul qui se trouve à l’origine de la logique informatique. En raison de son homosexualité, Turing a suscité des commérages et a été poursuivi pénalement. Ceci a potentiellement conduit à son suicide présumé. La biographie de Turing semble lier étroitement son histoire personnelle à l'histoire du 20ème siècle. Olesen a apposé manuellement des ‘corrections’ sur des documents originaux. Ce sont des traces authentiques de l'interaction directe de l'artiste avec le matériel de recherche. Il ne présente pas les originaux transmis mais des scans de ceux-ci, de nouvelles images dans lesquelles il attribue la même valeur historique aux documents et à ses corrections.
