NL – In zijn video-installaties en abstracte sculpturen onderzoekt Stefaan Dheedene de wisselwerking tussen natuur en cultuur en de sociaal-economische logica die sinds de opkomst van de moderniteit onze meest alledaagse keuzes bepaalt. ‘Against the Sun’ bestaat uit vijf schilderijen die de kunstenaar selecteerde uit de S.M.A.K.-collectie. Een zaklamp schijnt in tegenovergestelde richting van de zon, maar simultaan met haar loop om de aarde. Een beweging die tegelijk natuurlijk en gemechaniseerd is. Zo belicht de lamp om 9 uur ‘Horizon Z’ en om 20 uur ‘Me and Rafal’. Op de middag schijnt de lamp hoog boven ‘Neither Forget your Legs’. Twee werken blijven steeds in de duisternis verhuld.
ENG – In his video installations and abstract sculptures, Stefaan Dheedene examines the interaction between nature and culture and the socio-economic logic that has determined most of our everyday choices since the advent of modernity. ‘Against the Sun’ consists of five paintings the artist selected from the S.M.A.K. collection. A torch shines upwards towards the sun, and follows its course across the sky. This movement is both natural and mechanical. As part of the movement the torch lights up Horizon Z at 9 am and ‘Me and Rafal’ at 8 pm. At noon it shines high up above ‘Neither forget your legs’. Two of the works remain constantly enveloped in darkness.
FR – Stefaan Dheedene explore dans ses installations vidéo et ses sculptures abstraites l’interaction entre nature et culture et la logique socioéconomique qui détermine nos décisions les plus courantes depuis l’ère de la modernité. ‘Against the Sun’ consiste en cinq tableaux sélectionnés par l’artiste dans la collection du S.M.A.K. Une lampe de poche luit en direction opposée du soleil mais simultanément à sa course autour de la Terre. Un mouvement est naturellement à la fois de manière naturelle et mécanisée. Une lampe éclaire ainsi à 9 heures Horizon Z et à 20 heures ‘Me and Rafal’. A midi, la lampe brille haut au-dessus de ‘Neither Forget your Legs’. Deux œuvres restent toujours plongées dans l’ombre.
