NL - In de jaren ‘60 begon Pol Mara fotorealistische elementen toe te voegen aan zijn schilderkunst. De inspiratie daarvoor haalde hij uit de opkomende massamedia zoals televisie, film en modebladen of reclame. De combinatie van verschillende realistische fragmenten en de abstracte kleurvlakken roept het gevoel op van een soort droomwereld. Mara beschouwde zijn schilderkunst als een protest tegen al het onrecht en het lelijke in de samenleving. Zijn pseudoniem zou ook een acroniem zijn voor Pour Oublier Laideur Métamorphoses Amour Rêve Amitié.
ENG - In the 1960s, Pol Mara started to introduce photorealistic elements into his paintings. He drew inspiration from the then emerging mass media such as television, film and fashion magazines or advertising. The combination of various realistic elements with abstract colour fields infuses the work with a dream-like atmosphere. Mara saw his art as a protest against all the injustice and ugliness in society. His pseudonym is also believed to be an acronym for Pour Oublier Laideur Métamorphoses Amour Rêve Amitié.
