Sans titre (fotowerk installatie "Chambres d'Amis")

NL – François Hers gebruikt fotografie om tussen te komen in het veld van de kunst. Met zijn oeuvre wil hij op zoek gaan naar een nieuwe status voor kunst in de hedendaagse maatschappij, naar een nieuwe relatie tussen kunstenaars, hun werk en de samenleving. Zijn zoektocht naar een nieuwe relevantie en legitimiteit voor kunst wordt geplaatst in de context van het Europa van de jaren ‘60, toen men geloofde in collectieve betrokkenheid en in kunst als tegengewicht voor de consumptiemaatschappij. Voor ‘Chambres d'Amis’ koos Hers als locatie het atelier van schilder Rafaël De Maertelaere. Voor het eerst gaat hij hier de confrontatie aan met de schilderkunst. Hij gaat op zoek naar een spirituele manier om met de schilderijen uit het atelier te communiceren. Met een eenvoudige tussenkomst, een eeuwenoud gebaar, verbindt hij fotografie en schilderkunst.

ENG – François Hers uses photography to intervene in the field of art. His oeuvre is a quest for a new status for art in contemporary society, a new relationship between artists, their work and society. His search for a new relevance and legitimacy for art should be seen in the context of Europe in the 1960s, when people believed in collective commitment and in art as a counterbalance to the consumer society. For ‘Chambres d’Amis’, Hers chose the studio of the painter Rafaël De Martelaere as his location. This was the first time he had entered into confrontation with the art of painting. He looks for a spiritual way of communicating with the paintings in the studio. By means of a simple intervention, an age-old gesture, he makes a connection between photography and painting.

FR – François Hers utilise la photographie pour s’introduire dans l’univers de l’art. Son travail créatif recherche un nouveau statut pour l’art dans la société contemporaine, une nouvelle relation entre les artistes, leur œuvre et la société. Sa recherche d’une direction, d’une légitimité nouvelle pour l’art se situe dans le contexte de l’Europe des années 1960, lorsqu’on croyait en l’implication collective et en l’art comme contrepoids à la société de consommation. Hers choisit comme site pour ‘Chambres d’Amis’ l’atelier du peintre Rafaël De Maertelaere, acceptant pour la première fois la confrontation avec la peinture. Il part en quête d’une manière spirituelle de communiquer avec les tableaux de l’atelier. D’une simple intervention, d’un geste ancestral, il fait le lien entre la photographie et la peinture.
