NL - Op het eerste zicht gebeurt er weinig in Klara Lidéns reeks korrelige zwart-wit beelden van de Seine. Tot je begrijpt dat de actie zich buiten beeld afspeelt. De kunstenares wandelt het water in en filmt de absurde actie met een camera op haar schouder. Deze diareeks bestaat uit stills uit de video. De onzichtbaarheid van de actie, die wordt versterkt door de opzettelijk slechte kwaliteit van de beelden, is belangrijk voor Lidén. Op deze manier verbeeldt ze de onzichtbaarheid en de onmacht van het individu in onze samenleving. Met haar werk verzet ze zich hiertegen. Soms speels, soms absurd, soms gewelddadig, soms sinister. Lidén eigent zich de publieke ruimte toe, neemt er tijdelijk opnieuw bezit van. Ze speelt de hoofdrol en voert acties uit, maar blijft tegelijk onzichtbaar. Op deze manier treedt ze op als ‘stand-in’ voor elke bewoner van de stedelijke omgeving.

The artist walks into the water and films the absurd action with a camera on her shoulder. This series of slides consists of stills from the video. The invisible nature of the action, which is emphasised by the deliberately poor quality of the images, is quite important to Lidén. In this way she represents the invisibility and powerlessness of the individual in our society. She puts up resistance against it in her work. Sometimes playful, sometimes absurd, sometimes violent, sometimes sinister. Lidén appropriates public space, temporarily regaining possession of it. She plays the leading part and performs actions, but at the same time she remains invisible. In this way she acts as a stand-in for each and every resident of the urban environment.

FR - À première vue, il ne se passe pas grand-chose sur la série d’images granuleuses en noir et blanc de la Seine. Jusqu’à ce qu’on comprenne que l’action se passe en dehors de l’image. L’artiste marche dans l’eau et filme cette action absurde avec une caméra sur l’épaule. Cette série de diapositives est composée d’images de la vidéo. L’invisibilité de l’action, renforcée par la mauvaise qualité intentionnelle des images, est importante pour Lidén. Elle représente de cette manière l’invisibilité et l’impuissance de l’individu au sein de notre société. Avec son œuvre, elle s’y oppose. De manière parfois ludique, parfois absurde, tantôt brutale, tantôt sinistre. Lidén s’approprie l’espace public, en prend possession à nouveau temporairement. Elle joue le rôle principal et mène des actions, mais reste en même temps invisible. De cette manière, elle se présente comme remplaçante pour chaque habitant de l’environnement urbain.
