NL – De 67 koperen tegels van dit werk liggen in één rechte lijn op de grond. De lijn kan dienen als een verbinding tussen twee ruimtes of als markering van een bepaalde plaats en definieert de ruimte zonder die te overheersen of aan te tasten. Andre vergelijkt zijn lintvormige vloersculpturen met wegen. De titel verwijst ook subtiel naar de straatnummeringen in zijn woonplaats Manhattan. Een weg functioneert volgens Andre vanuit meerdere gezichtspunten. De ruimte rondom de weg verandert voortdurend. Pas wanneer je een weg volgt, krijg je zicht op verschillende gezichtshoeken. Andre nodigt zijn publiek dan ook uit om naast of rond de sculptuur te lopen, om zo de altijd veranderende ruimte rondom het werk ten volle te beleven en te onderzoeken.
ENG – The 67 copper tiles of this piece lie in a straight line on the ground. The line could serve as a connection between two spaces, or as a marker of a certain place, and defines the space without dominating or affecting it. Andre compares his ribbon-shaped floor sculptures to roads. The title also subtly refers to the street numbering in his home of Manhattan. In Andre's view a road functions according to multiple perspectives. The space around the road changes constantly. Only when you follow a road do you obtain a view of the different visual angles. Andre also invites his audience to walk besides or around the sculpture, to fully experience and investigate the constantly changing space around the piece.
FR - Les 67 carreaux de cuivre de cette oeuvre sont placés en ligne droite sur le sol. La ligne peut servir à relier deux espaces ou à marquer un endroit précis et elle définit l’espace sans le dominer ou l’attaquer. Andre compare ses sculptures au sol en forme de ruban à des routes. Le titre évoque aussi subtilement les numéros des rues de Manhattan où il réside. Selon Andre, une route fonctionne en partant de différents points de vue. L’espace autour de la route change en permanence. Ce n’est que lorsque vous suivez une route que vous avez une vue des différentes perspectives. C’est pourquoi Andre invite son public à circuler à côté ou autour de sa sculpture, pour vivre et étudier pleinement l’espace changeant autour de l’oeuvre.
