Scale Model

NL - Oppenheims ‘Scale Models’ vormen samen met zijn tekeningen over architectuur en ruimte een segment van zijn oeuvre waarin de kunstenaar zijn artistieke denkprocessen trachtte te visualiseren. Deze ‘maquettes’ zijn ‘voorstellen voor potentiële plaatsen, gebeurtenissen en nieuwe werken’ en bevinden zich in een staat van constante verandering. Ze hebben zeer uiteenlopende vormen en bieden een flexibel antwoord op de overgangen en transformaties waaraan alledaagse voorwerpen en constructies onderhevig zijn. De ‘Scale Models’ wijzigen bovendien voortdurend in relatie tot de positie van waaruit we ze bekijken. Oppenheim zelf zei er het volgende over: “Het zijn werken die zich bewegen van conventionele sculptuur naar iets wat ik zie als een aanzet voor een nieuwe, hybride vorm die sculptuur met architectuur combineert.”

ENG - Oppenheim’s ‘Scale Models’, together with his drawings on architecture and space, form a segment of his oeuvre in which he attempted to visualise his artistic thought processes. These ‘models’ are ‘proposals for potential places, events and new works’ and are in a state of constant change. They have diverse shapes and can be seen as a flexible response to the transitions and transformations to which everyday objects and constructions are subject. The ‘Scale Models’ are also constantly changing in relation to the position from which we view them. Of this, Oppenheim has said: “They are works that move from conventional sculpture to something that I see as a starting point for a new, hybrid form which combines sculpture with architecture.”

FR - Les ‘Scales Models’ d’Oppenheim constituent avec ses dessins sur l’architecture et l’espace un segment de son œuvre où l’artiste tenta de visualiser ses processus de pensées artistiques. Ces ‘maquettes’ sont des ‘présentations pour des endroits, des événements et de nouvelles œuvres potentielles’ et elles sont dans un état de mutation constante. Elles prennent des formes très variées et sont une réponse flexible aux transitions et transformations auxquelles les objets et les constructions de tous les jours sont soumis. En outre, les ‘Scale Models’ changent en permanence d’après la position dans laquelle nous les regardons. Oppenheim en personne en parla comme suit: “Ce sont des œuvres qui évoluent d’une sculpture conventionnelle vers quelque chose que je perçois comme une ébauche pour une nouvelle forme hybride qui combine la sculpture avec l’architecture.”
