Colombage

NL – ‘Colombage’ bestaat uit dunne houten latten en doet denken aan traditionele vakwerkbouw, de letterlijke vertaling van de titel van dit werk. Dezeuze ziet het werk als “een opengewerkt beeldveld dat kan dienen om verf en kleur te ontvangen.” De constructie is fragiel, het materiaal arm en schraal, de grammatica van het werk uiterst eenvoudig en minimaal. Het is een voor Dezeuze typische reductie: een schilderij dat als sculpturaal object verschijnt, naakt in zijn materialiteit.

ENG - Colombage is made of thin wooden slats and is reminiscent of traditional timber-frame buildings, constructed using a technique known as colombage in French, hence the title. Dezeuze sees it as “an openwork visual field that can serve to receive paint and colour”. The construction is fragile, the material poor and sparse, and the work’s grammar is extremely simple and minimal. It is a reduction that is typical of Dezeuze: a painting that appears as a sculptural object, naked in its materiality.

FR – « Colombage » est constitué de fines lamelles de bois et rappelle la construction traditionnelle à ossature bois, traduction littérale du titre de l'œuvre. Dezeuze considère l'œuvre comme « un champ visuel ajouré qui peut servir à recevoir de la peinture et de la couleur ». La construction est fragile, le matériau pauvre et peu abondant, la grammaire de l'œuvre extrêmement simple et minimale. Il s'agit d'une réduction typique de Dezeuze : une peinture qui apparaît comme un objet sculptural, nu dans sa matérialité.
