Malkolos

NL – ‘Malkolos’ is buiten te zien, links van het museumgebouw. Dit in situ werk, 4m hoog en met een diameter van 45 cm, kwam na een complex creatieproces tot stand uit kartonnen dozen, cement, touw en metalen staven. Het werk is aanwezig als een ‘cultuurvorm’ te midden van andere door de mens gecreëerde vormen en de natuurlijke omgeving die onophoudelijk evolueert. Cement (aarde, grond) en water (zee, regen) vormen de mortel. Zuurstof (lucht) zorgt voor een samenspel. Zelfs uitgehard blijft dit beeld een natuurlijk product. De regen voert organismen aan, de wind zaait mos, bladeren vormen humus. Ook nadat de kunstenaar is verdwenen, groeit deze sculptuur verder. Zoals een tak de groei van een boom toont, geeft hier het zichtbaar gebleven karton structuur. Kwetsbaarheid maakt deel uit van het leven. Sporen tonen het leven.

This 4m high, 45 cm diameter in situ work, was realized via a complex creation process utilizing cardboard boxes, cement, rope and metal rods. The work is present as a 'cultural form' in the midst of other man-made shapes and the continuously evolving natural environment. Cement (earth, soil) and water (sea, rain) form the mortar. Oxygen (air) engenders an interplay. Even ossified, this ‘form’ remains a natural product. The rain introduces organisms, the wind sows moss, leaves turn to humus. Even after the artist is no longer involved, this sculpture continues to grow. Just as a branch shows the growth of a tree, here the remaining visible cardboard imparts structure. Vulnerability is inherent in life. Vestiges are proof of life.

FR - ‘Malkolos’ est visible à l’extérieur, à gauche du bâtiment du musée. Cette oeuvre in situ, de 4m de hauteur et 45cm de diamètre, a vu le jour au terme d’un complexe processus de création à partir de boîtes en carton, de ciment, de cordes et de barres métalliques. L’oeuvre est comme une ‘forme culturelle’ au milieu d’autres formes créées par l’homme et l’environnement naturel qui est en évolution permanente. Du ciment (terre, sol) et de l’eau (mer, pluie) forment le mortier. L’oxygène (air) crée un jeu d’ensemble. Même durcie, cette sculpture reste un produit naturel. La pluie apporte des organismes, le vent sème de la mousse, les feuilles se transforment en humus. Même après la disparition de l’artiste, cette sculpture continue de se développer. Telle une branche qui montre la croissance d’un arbre, le carton resté visible donne de la structure. La fragilité fait partie de la vie. Des traces montrent la vie.
