Als bezoeker kan je hier ongelimiteerd ‘zappen’ doorheen een scala aan online televisiefragmenten, amateurfilmpjes, blogmateriaal en YouTube-video’s. Door de tentoonstelling op te vatten als een gigantische iPad, zet Grimonprez onze onverzadigbare mediaconsumptie op zijn kop.

ENG – In ‘Maybe the Sky is Really Green, and We’re Just Colourblind’, Grimonprez opens up the context of his own video work by zooming in on the way the latest technological developments have reshaped every aspect of our daily lives. The convergence of various forms of media – from Youtube to Facebook – has initiated a cultural process in which we, as individuals, can satisfy our desire for unbounded channel surfing at the centre of an endless network and are addicted to entertainment and distraction, by means of ‘tapping’, ‘flicking’, and ‘pinching’ using one mobile device. Whereas these media seem like a window on the world, Grimonprez moves in the opposite direction by introducing them into the intimate and critical space of the museum. His ‘WeTube-O-Theque’ is an expanding media vlog archive that can be seen as Grimonprez’s artistic sketchbook. The visitor can zap without limit through a range of online television excerpts, amateur films, blog material and YouTube videos. By conceiving the exhibition as a gigantic iPad, Grimonprez turns our insatiable media consumption upside down.
