One Another (football)

NL – ‘One Another (Football)’ van Michel François is een sculpturaal object geïnspireerd op het dagelijkse leven. Een lederen jas hangt op een houten stoel naast een voetbal die werd samengesteld uit stukjes leer van diezelfde jas. De titel van het werk zinspeelt op de filosofie van Michel Foucault en diens notie van de ‘heterotopie’, of de andere plaats. Volgens dit idee bevindt François’ sculpturale object zich in een tussenruimte die de wereld enerzijds weerspiegelt en anderzijds verstoort en betwist. Met ‘One Another (Football)’ voegt François, op een poëtische manier, een nieuwe betekenis toe aan eenvoudige en alledaagse objecten en materialen en beïnvloedt hij hoe deze worden waargenomen. In parallel met de kunstenaars van de Italiaanse arte povera, verkent hij hoe betekenis over tijd evolueert en transformeert door nieuwe associaties, betekenislagen of interacties met andere kunstwerken of tentoonstellingsruimtes. Het werk, dat steeds in verandering is, wordt daarmee een symbool van eindeloze mogelijkheden.

ENG – ‘One Another (Football)’ by Michel François is a sculptural object inspired by everyday life. A leather jacket hangs on a wooden stool beside a football that was crafted using pieces of the same garment. The title of the work alludes to Michel Foucault’s philosophical concepts and his notion of ‘heterotopia’, or the other place. According to this idea, François’ sculptural object finds itself in an in-between space that reflects the world on the one hand, and disturbs and challenges it on the other. With ‘One Another (Football)’, François poetically imbues simple and everyday objects and materials with new meaning, and influences the way in which they are perceived. In parallel to the artists of the Italian Arte Povera movement, he explores how meaning evolves over time and is transformed by new associations, layers of significance or interactions with other artworks or exhibition spaces. The work, which is constantly changing, thus becomes a symbol of endless possibilities.

FR – ‘One Another (Football)’ de Michel François est un objet sculptural inspiré de la vie quotidienne. Une veste en cuir est accrochée au dossier d’une chaise en bois installée à côté d’un ballon de football composé de morceaux de cuir provenant de cette même veste. Le titre de l’œuvre fait allusion à la philosophie de Michel Foucault et à sa notion ‘d’hétérotopie’, c’est-à-dire d’autre lieu. Suivant cette idée, l’objet sculptural de François se trouve dans un espace intermédiaire qui, d’une part, reflète le monde et, d’autre part, le perturbe et le conteste. Avec ‘One Another (Football)’, François ajoute poétiquement un nouveau sens aux objets et matières ordinaires et influence par conséquent la façon dont ceux-ci sont perçus. En parallèle avec les artistes de l’Arte Povera italien, il explore la manière dont le sens évolue et se transforme au fil du temps, à travers de nouvelles associations, couches sémantiques ou interactions avec d’autres œuvres d’art ou espaces d’exposition. L’œuvre, en variation constante, devient ainsi un symbole de possibilités infinies.
