Torsione

NL – Een reep katoen is door middel van een metalen ring verankerd in de tentoonstellingsmuur. Door de u-vormige opening onderaan is een metalen staaf geschoven die door twee installateurs zo lang mogelijk in dezelfde richting werd gedraaid. Het getorste katoen werd op deze manier opgeladen met een tegenkracht die gelijk is aan de maximale mankracht die de twee installateurs op de metalen staaf konden uitoefenen. Met de fysieke kenmerken van het materiaal, de zwaartekracht en de mankracht van de installateurs creëerde Anselmo een onzichtbare energetische spanning. Van zodra deze spanning zou wegvallen, zou volgens de kunstenaar meteen ook het sculpturale bestaansrecht van het werk vervallen en zou het opnieuw de status krijgen van alledaags, ‘gewoon’ materiaal.

ENG – A strip of cotton cloth is anchored in the wall by means of a metal ring. A metal bar is inserted through the U-shaped opening at the bottom. Two assistants then turn the bar in the same direction as long as they can. In this way, the twisted cotton is imbued with a counterforce equal to the maximum manpower the two assistants were able to exert on the metal bar. Anselmo created an invisible charge of energy by means of the physical properties of the material, gravity and the manpower applied by the assistants. According to the artist, as soon as this energy is removed, the sculptural ‘raison d’être’ of the work would also be terminated and it would return to its role as ‘ordinary’, everyday material.

FR - Une bande de coton est ancrée dans le mur de l’exposition au moyen d’un anneau métallique. Une barre en métal a été glissée par l’ouverture en forme de u et deux installateurs l’ont tournée le plus longtemps possible dans le même sens. De sorte que le coton torsadé a été chargé d’une résistance égale à la force musculaire maximale que les deux installateurs ont pu exercer sur la barre métallique. Anselmo a créé, avec les caractéristiques physiques du matériau, de la pesanteur et de la force musculaire, une tension énergétique invisible. Dès que cette tension disparaîtra, le droit d’existence sculpturale de l’oeuvre disparaîtrait aussi selon l’artiste et retrouverait le statut d’un matériau quotidien, ‘normal’.
