Words, Recollected

NL – Taal en naamgeving zijn onlosmakelijk verbonden met identiteit en origine, allemaal thema’s die centraal staan in Garabedians oeuvre en samenkomen in het werk ‘Words, recollected’. Deze reeks woorden is het resultaat van een geheugenoefening. De kunstenaar probeert zich woorden in het Armeens te herinneren en schrijft die fonetisch op de muur. Hiermee reflecteert hij over de fragiele positie van de (moeder)taal na migratie.

ENG – Language and naming are inseparably linked to identity and origin, all of which are topics at the heart of Garabedian’s oeuvre that come together in the work ‘Words, recollected’. This series of words is the result of a memory exercise. The artist tries to remember words in Armenian and writes them phonetically on the wall. In this way he reflects on the vulnerable position of the native tongue after migration.

FR – La langue et la dénomination sont étroitement liés à l’identité et à l’origine, autant de thèmes qui occupent une place centrale dans l’œuvre de Garabedian et fusionnent dans des œuvres comme ‘Words, recollected’. Cette série de mots est le résultat d’un exercice de mémoire. L’artiste tente de se souvenir de mots arméniens et les écrit phonétiquement sur le mur. Il nous livre ainsi une réflexion sur la position fragile de la langue maternelle après l’émigration.
