NL – Sinds de jaren ’60 bouwt Panamarenko utopische vliegtuigen. De ambitie om nieuwe technologie voor de vliegtuigbouw uit te vinden, koestert hij niet. Het gaat hem om de realisatie van de ultieme droom om te vliegen: een manier vinden waarop de mens zich op eigen kracht door de lucht kan voortbewegen. Zijn zoektocht naar vliegbare constructies mondt nooit uit in functionele eindresultaten. De mogelijkheid om te mislukken maakt onlosmakelijk deel uit van zijn werk en verleent het zijn poëtische zeggingskracht.
Voor het door mankracht aangedreven vliegsysteem in ‘Flying Wing’ baseerde Panamarenko zich op de vliegtechniek van insecten. De fragiliteit van de materialen en het onverbloemde knutselwerk, getuigen ook hier van Panamarenko’s spel met textuur, materialen en techniek. ‘Flying Wing’ verenigt beredeneerde constructie met een primitief en naïef karakter.
ENG – Panamarenko started building utopian aircrafts in the 1960s. He did not have any ambition to invent new technologies for aircraft construction. He was more concerned with the realisation of the ultimate dream of flight: finding a way in which man could move through the air under his own power. His quest for airworthy constructions never results in functional devices. The possibility of failure is an inseparable part of his work and gives it its poetic eloquence.
Panamarenko based the human-powered flying system in ‘Flying Wing’ on the flying technique used by insects. Here too, the fragility of the materials and the unembellished handiwork reveal Panamarenko’s handling of texture, materials and mechanics. ‘Flying Wing’ combines rational construction with a primitive and naïve approach.
FR – Panamarenko construit des aéroplanes utopiques depuis les années 60. Il ne caresse pas l’ambition d’inventer de nouvelles technologies pour la conception aéronautique. Il s’agit pour lui de réaliser le rêve ultime de voler: trouver une manière qui permettra à l’homme de se déplacer dans les airs par sa propre force. Sa recherche de constructions capables de voler ne débouche jamais sur un résultat final en état de marche. La possibilité d’échouer fait partie intégrante de son œuvre et lui donne une expressivité poétique.
Pour le système de vol propulsé par la force de l’homme dans ‘Flying Wing’, Panamarenko s’est basé sur la technique de vol des insectes. La fragilité des matériaux et le travail de bricolage évident témoignent ici aussi du jeu de Panamarenko avec la texture, les matériaux et la technique. ‘Flying Wing’ combine une construction réfléchie avec un caractère primitif et naïf.
