NL – Dit werk kadert binnen Marinus Boezems conceptuele praktijk van de jaren ‘60 en ’70. In die periode bood hij diverse vluchtige fenomenen als ‘readymade’-kunstwerk aan, waardoor ze in een nieuwe context ervaren konden worden. Op schriftelijk verzoek van Boezem aan de Nederlandse weerkundige dienst, werden er van de weerkaart van 26 september 1968 vijfhonderd afdrukken gemaakt. Op die dag werden ze, samen met een windschaal uitgedrukt in Beaufort, verstuurd naar verschillende kunstinstellingen en personen in binnen- en buitenland. De weerkaart en de windschaal werden door Boezems toedoen conceptuele kunstwerken, die onder meer in de collectie van S.M.A.K. zijn opgenomen. Bedoeling van dit project was, aldus Boezem: “enerzijds informatie bieden over een terrein dat in de beeldende kunsten nog niet was geëxploreerd en anderzijds de ervaring vernieuwen van een dagelijks terugkerend, banaal fenomeen.” Met deze actie formuleerde de kunstenaar kritiek op de vervlakking van de (spirituele) ervaringswereld, die volgens hem “het gevolg was van de intensifiëring van de technologische communicatie- en informatieverspreiding.”
ENG - This work sits within Marinus Boezem’s conceptual practice of the 1960s and 1970s. During this period, he offered various ephemeral phenomena as ‘ready-made’ artworks, allowing them to be experienced in a new context. At Boezem’s written request to the Dutch meteorological service, 500 prints were made of the weather chart for 26 September 1968. These were sent to various national and international art institutions that very same day, together with a wind scale expressed in Beaufort. Through Boezem’s intervention, the weather chart and wind scale became conceptual artworks, included in the collection of S.M.A.K., amongst others. The aim of this project, Boezem says, was to “on the one hand offer information on a terrain that had not yet been explored in the visual arts, and on the other hand, to renew the experience of an everyday, banal phenomenon.” With this action, the artist formulated a critique of the flattening of the (spiritual) world of experience, which he said was “the result of the intensification of technological communication and information dissemination.”
FR - Cette œuvre s'inscrit dans la pratique conceptuelle de Marinus Boezem des années 1960 et 1970. Au cours de cette période, il a proposé divers phénomènes éphémères en tant qu'œuvres d'art « ready-made », afin de permettre de les expérimenter dans un nouveau contexte. À la demande écrite de Boezem au service météorologique néerlandais, la carte météorologique du 26 septembre 1968 a été imprimée en cinq cents exemplaires. Ce jour-là, elles ont été envoyées, accompagnées d'une échelle des vents exprimée en Beaufort, à diverses institutions artistiques et à des particuliers, au pays et à l'étranger. Grâce à l'intervention de Boezem, la carte météorologique et l'échelle des vents sont devenues des œuvres d'art conceptuelles, qui font partie de la collection du S.M.A.K., entre autres. L'objectif de ce projet, selon Boezem, était « d'une part d'offrir des informations sur un terrain qui n'avait pas encore été exploré dans les arts visuels et d'autre part de renouveler l'expérience d'un phénomène quotidien et banal ». Par cette action, l'artiste a formulé une critique de l'aplatissement du monde (spirituel) de l'expérience, qui est, selon lui, « le résultat de l'intensification de la communication technologique et de la diffusion de l'information ».
