NL – Deze video documenteert een interventie van Ulay die een schilderij steelt uit de Nationalgalerie in Berlijn en het ophangt in de huiskamer van een Turks gastarbeidersgezin. In de video worden nieuwsberichten afgewisseld met surveillance-achtig archiefmateriaal van de performance.
ENG – This video documents Ulay stealing a painting from the Nationalgalerie in Berlin and hanging it in the living room of a Turkish guest worker family. In the video news reports are interspersed with surveillance camera-like archive footage of the performance
FR – Cette vidéo documente une intervention d’Ulay qui vole un tableau à la Nationalgalerie de Berlin et l’accroche dans le salon d’une famille d’ouvriers turcs. La vidéo alterne des images d’actualités avec du matériel d’archives de la performance aux allures d’images de vidéosurveillance.
‘A Performance Anthology Volume 3’
NL – Het project ‘Relation Work’ bestaat uit een serie conceptuele performances waarin Abramović en Ulay hun lichaam inzetten om via uithoudingsvermogen en risico de grenzen van het fysieke, mentale en psychologische af te tasten. De kunstenaars testen de relatie tussen mannelijke en vrouwelijke energieën in tijd en ruimte, waarbij ze de limieten van lichaam en geest tot het uiterste drijven. Zo ademen ze minutenlang alleen elkaars adem in, slaan ze elkaar volop in het gezicht of smakken ze hun naakte lichaam herhaaldelijk tegen de muur.
ENG – The project ‘Relation Work’ consists of a series of conceptual performances in which Abramović and Ulay use their body to explore physical, mental and psychological limits through stamina and risk. The artists investigate the relationship between male and female energies in time and space, pushing the limits of body and mind to their extremes. For minutes long they breathe each other’s breath, hit each other full force and repeatedly smack their naked body against the wall.
FR – Le projet ‘Relation Work’ consiste en une série de performances conceptuelles dans lesquelles Abramović et Ulay utilisent leur corps pour explorer les limites physiques, mentales et psychologiques à travers l’endurance et le risque. Les artistes testent la relation entre les énergies masculine et féminine dans le temps et dans l’espace, poussant à leurs limites extrêmes le corps et l’esprit. Pendant des minutes, ils n’inspirent que leur souffle réciproque, se frappent violemment au visage ou se jettent nus contre un mur.
