NL – Volgens Leo Copers begon zijn artistieke carrière op 3 mei 1969. Exact op die dag zou de kunstenaar getroffen zijn door het eenvoudige tafereel van een gloeilamp die op de Gentse Leie dreef. In 1962 werd er volgens Italiaanse media een ufo waargenomen boven Milaan. Toen Copers dit vernam, vond hij dat de ufo perfect een ontwerp van hem had kunnen zijn. Vanuit deze gedachte maakte hij, zij het acht jaar later, enkele ontwerptekeningen en dit werk met de ludieke en alleszeggende titel ‘Installatie om een flikkerende gloeilamp af te schieten boven Milaan’. De katapult bevat alle noodzakelijke elementen om het plan effectief tot uitvoering te brengen.
ENG – According to Leo Copers, his artistic career began on 3 May 1969. On this precise day, he was dumbfounded by the simple sight of a light bulb drifting on the River Lys in Ghent. In 1962, the Italian media reported that a UFO had been spotted above the Italian city. When Copers heard this, he felt that it would have made his ideal subject. This thought led him to make some preparatory drawings, eight years later, and this work with the playful and telling title of ‘Installation To Fire Off A Flickering Light Bulb Over Milan’. In the catapult, all the elements necessary to actually carry out this plan are in place.
FR – D’après Leo Copers, sa carrière artistique débuta le 3 mai 1969. Ce jour-là, l’artiste aurait été touché par le simple spectacle d’une ampoule qui flottait sur la Lys à Gand. Selon les médias italiens, un ovni a été observé au-dessus de Milan en 1962. Lorsque Copers en eut connaissance, il trouva que l’ovni pouvait parfaitement être un projet à lui. En partant de cette idée, il en réalisa des dessins de conception, même si c’était huit ans plus tard, et cette œuvre au titre ludique et éloquent ‘Installation de catapulte pour projeter une ampoule clignotante au-dessus de Milan’. Cette catapulte est munie de tous les éléments nécessaires pour exécuter le projet.
