NL – Voor Joseph Beuys was het doorgeven van ideeën van groot belang. Bekend zijn de kunstenaars performances waarin hij zijn visie op kunst, het leven en de maatschappij uiteenzette. In diagrammen en schema’s tekende Beuys daarbij zijn typerende termenarsenaal in onderlinge samenhang uit. Elke krabbel of notitie was voor hem een kunstwerk. Met zijn signatuurstempel naamtekende hij veel van zijn schrijfsels en tekeningen. Onder de term ‘Soziale Plastik’ (sociale sculptuur) bundelde Beuys zijn theorieën: hij zag sculptuur als een evolutionair en artistiek proces tussen rationeel denken en intuïtie waarbinnen de maatschappij als een groot kunstwerk wordt gezien waaraan iedereen creatief kan bijdragen.
ENG – Communicating ideas was extremely important to Joseph Beuys. The performances in which he set out his views on art, life and society are well known. In the form of diagrams and outlines, he drew his characteristic glossary of terms with their mutual relations. Every scribble or note he considered a work of art. He signed many of his writings and drawings with a signature stamp. Beuys collected his theories together under the heading ‘Soziale Plastik’ (social sculpture): he saw sculpture as an evolutionary and artistic process somewhere between rational thinking and intuition, and society as a grand work of art to which everyone could make a creative contribution.
FR – Pour Joseph Beuys, il était très important de transmettre des idées. Les performances dans lesquelles l’artiste a exprimé sa vision de l’art, de la vie et de la société, sont notoires. Dans des diagrammes et des schémas, Beuys a dessiné son arsenal caractérisant de termes dans un contexte commun. Chaque gribouillage ou note a été une œuvre d’art pour lui. Avec sa signature estampille, il a signé un grand nombre de ses écrits et dessins. Sous la dénomination de ‘Soziale Plastik’ (sculpture sociale), Beuys a rassemblé ses théories: il a vu la sculpture comme un processus artistique évolutionnaire entre la pensée rationnelle et l’intuition dans lequel la société est considérée comme une grande œuvre d’art à laquelle tout le monde peut contribuer de manière créative.
